/ GILDED 'TRAY' FRAME
We call this a 'mabbutt' style frame - so named because we first created this
style for an artist of that name.
Work sits within an mdf 'tray' constructed to accommodate the depth of the
canvas, which is then framed in a simple squared outline and the entire unit
is then gessoed. For this oil painting by Judy Buxton, the tray mount plus
the back edge of the frame have been painted in a warm shade of white, with
the 'face' of the outer frame picked out in white gold - a softer, warmer
shade than silver.
